Red Cliff Movie Review
Jul 21st, 2009 by Squizzmaster

I went a saw a preview of this movie over the weekend, it was after dinner and it was without really much of an expectation. It already had this in it’s favour.
The First Half Hour – Hang in There
The first half hour of the movie was quite slow moving, but at the same time not that easy to follow with scenes that just didn’t seem neccessary. The battle scenes, though spectacular, were a little drawn out and I found my mind drifting. However, I made myself focus, particularly to read the subtitles so I wouldn’t lose the plot.
After the First Half Hour
I was fairly skeptical this far into the movie but I found myself becoming fully absorbed with a firm grasp on the plot. Many strategic moments during the movie had myself and fellow movie goers reacting with shared satisfaction.
This really is an epic tale and John Woo has, as he often does, delivered what has become quite the hit amongst the Chinese and hopefully Australian’s too.
Not Liked by All
There was one member of the group (6 of us) who did not enjoy the movie. He was very tired and may not have focused for those crucial but relatively boring first 30 minutes.
Offical Australian release of Red Cliff is July 23
Overall: 8/10
