Australia Now World’s Fattest Nation
According to this article in the age, Australia is the fattest nation in the world with 26% of our population obese, compared to America’s 25%. Though I always knew we’d climbed our way somewhere towards the top, to hear hard statistics like this is nothing short of f#cking disappointing. Gone is our image of an active, fit and toned beach country.
Looking at the lifestyle between previous and the current generation I can understand why the current generation would be fat as.
- The internet
- More Takeaway and shitty food
- Water restrictions
- Broader market of entertainment that is far more accessible i.e. video/computer games, televisions, home cinema
Then why is it that these stats are based on the adult population that grew up with a less sedentary lifestyle?
Back in the day kids spent more time playing sports, riding bikes after school, skipping and running through sprinklers. Today’s generation is more about the sit at the computer, eating McDonalds, being all Emo and striving for diabetes.
If the problem seen in middle aged adults today is reason for a wake up call, what fat statistics is this new generation going to bring in 10-15 years?
I need answers.
