Movies To Watch While Stoned
Jul 17th, 2008 by squizzmaster
Sometimes there’s nothing better then watching a movie when you’re stoned. The stimulation from a good movie can be nothing short of spectacular. My household has a projector screen and surround sound which helps. We’ve setup movies outside which makes for an awesome change now and then.
Sometimes I like scary movies, comedies, plots that draw me in, brain twisters\trippy or just movies that are visually spectacular. Here’s a few of my favourites:
MOVIES
Matrix
The first few times I saw this movie I didn’t like it at all because I didn’t pay attention and lost the plot completely. Then one day I was completely baked, payed attention and love it. Now I have all the answers.
Donnie Darko
Trippy cool movie, great concept, shot beautifully with some clever, funny and awe-inspiring stuff.
Run Lola Run
This is a trippy journey following Lola and other people doing a lot of running to some pumping music. Stimulating stuff.
Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle
This movie is hilarious, even some of the over the top stuff. One of those movies where you totally relate to the characters when they’re stoned and if you watch it with another friend who’s really high you turn to them and you know that they know that you know that they know.
Cat in the Hat
Wasn’t expecting much from this movie which helped but I’ve watched it twice now with different groups and it had me in stitches both times. F#cking hilarious, constantly on the go and visually stunning.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Visually stunning, always something happening and creepy funny. Well done Johnny Depp, you are a creep. Loved this one
Wanted(With Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy)
BANG! This one is a fast moving action Hollywood blockbuster. Great camera work, special effects, trippy scenes, some great comedy worked in there but overall a feast for the eyes, ears and heart. If your too stoned could be a bit hard to follow.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
This little beauty isn’t explosive in nature but you really become drawn into a fantasy land that just makes you feel good. Some scenes that make you floaty and reminiscent.
The Decent
Watched this one and we freaked out with our hearts in our throat but still loved it at the same time. Were some scenes where we found ourselves saying, why would they do that, why? But so glad they did
Final Destination 1-3
Hollywood blockbuster with lots of intense and suspenseful scenes and scenarios
Acopolypto
Awesome adventure movie, non-stop, draws me in
Dazed and Confused
Can’t remember it well, but a hilarious classic
Half Baked
See “Dazed and Confused”
The Cube
Intense and interesting. Drew me in. Cool booby traps
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Trippy movie in terms of both plot and cinematography. Probably the only time I didn’t mind Jim Carey after I became sick of his face
Lady in the Water
Cleverly written trippy fairytale with twists, turns and scenarios that really draw me in.
Grandma’s Boy
Pretty hilarious Stoner movie
March of the Penguins (French version)/Marche de l’empereur, La
If you can get your hands on the French version of this movie I strongly recommend it! When you’re stoned, this version reels you in. Admittedly, we were suitably baked so much so that as soon as we saw the first penguin in the first minute we were in stitches. The voice overs for the penguins are great; really tell a story and the music is far cooler on this compared to the American Orchestral score.
Semi-Pro
Hilarious movie with Will Ferrell. Had me laughing most of the way through.
Be Kind Rewind
Makes you want to make movies, pretty funny with some very clever movie making. A little cheese but primarily a good watch.
ANIMATION MOVIES
I’m a sucker for animations; the scope to turn imagination into movie is massive.
Shrek (No. 1)
One of my favourite movies of all time, has me in stitches from start to finish
Final Fantasy
Visually stunning and exhilarating, can’t quite remember all of it though
Animatrix
Visually stunning again, trippy
Spirited Away
A long movie, this one has drawn me in each time I’ve watched it. A pleasure to watch with love put in the details. Hayao Miyazaki has a great imagination and is a great director, must recommend anything from him.
TV\DVD SERIES
Dead Like Me
Very clever and funny writing, characters and story line really draw you in. Filmed in Vancouver Canada, I have a soft spot for that place and its intelligent approach to weed.
Doctor Who (TV series)
Okay, I’m having trouble finding other people who love this show as much as I do. The story lines are pretty insane, but the make up, costumes and special effects are always pretty good for their time, including the more recent series. Because the story lines are pretty out there, it can be very trippy and in a strange way, always draws me into the story.
Wipe Out (TV series)
This series from the U.S. is hilarious for the qualifying rounds. The commentators are hilarious and the footage of spills and hurts strike a chord with my inner Satan. My friends and I are constantly in stitches for this one until the final obstacle course for the big prize. It gets more serious here but is thrilling to watch.
Planet Earth BBC
I love to watch any nature documentary when stoned and The Planet Earth Series from the BBC is a perfect example. Amazing, jaw dropping footage that makes you wonder why someone hasn’t shown you how awesome the world and its creatures are. Visually stunning stuff.
That 70’s show
I find this show truly hilarious when stoned, the entire cast up till when Kelso and Eric left was genius and when the kids have sessions in their circle of trust, priceless.
