Next Stop: Doorway Morons
Jul 9th, 2008 by squizzmaster

This will be my first post of many public transport related woes because taking public transport in Melbourne is just fucked. It’s not the actual service that upsets me either (though we do have a pretty crappy train and bus system), it’s my fellow asshole commuters.
The mindless, illogical behaviour I see from tram and train assholes just sends me into a raging rant sometimes. I thank god that I now live close to the city and have become a city cycler because having it in for repairs has reminded me just how brain numbing and stupid public transport commuters are.
Blocking the doors
Problem
Seems there has always been a subconscious fear of terrorism. People refuse to lose their position from near doorways, ideal for those emergency exits. Passengers have no space to board the vehicle, but they do anyway, a crush ensues, tram drivers often refusing to continue.
Solution
If your stop is not the next stop, don’t be afraid to take a position further towards the back or middle of the tram. There is plenty of time for you to get closer to the doors between 2 stops with the worst scenario involving some excuse mees and squeezing. Passengers will be more evenly distributed and the service more efficient. And for Christ sakes, get out of the doorway.
Omg how true?? How about those idiots that wouldn’t get off the tram door steps? They are the freaking worstttt !!!
Do you also notice when you’re trying to get out of those blocked entrance, people seems to think we could squeeze in between those tiny weeny spaces and somehow make it out? People should just move their a$$, get out of the tram/train, let the other passengers out and then get back in.
I also hate it when people are leaning on some of the poles, seat holders and have their whole bodies against it. Lazy a$$es. Those poles and seat holders are for holding so that none of us tumble against each other.
I too get angry at how people love to crowd the doors, maybe they love the fresh air of every stop. I guess it depends on where the person gets off and I can see how the bottleneck can continue as people get off new people get on and they too only have to travel a short distance so they might have the say mindset of staying around the doorway. Is it worth an individual moving towards the back knowing in 2 stops they need to get past all those people again to get off?
